The shortlist

Every air purifier we rate

Honest, research-led verdicts, the good, the catch, and exactly who each one is for.

Our method

How we review

We have not used these products and we never pretend we have. We read the specs, the certifications and thousands of owner reports, so you do not have to.

🔎

Gather the facts

Specs, certifications, filter type and real running costs, straight from the source.

💬

Read the owners

Hundreds of verified buyer reviews, what holds up after months, and what doesn't.

⚖️

Weigh what matters

Performance, noise, coverage and value, the things you'll actually notice at home.

⚑

Flag the catch

Every product has one. We tell you exactly what it is before you spend a penny.

Why trust us

We answer to readers, not brands

  • Never sponsored. No brand can pay for a better ranking or a softer verdict.
  • Claims, checked. Marketing numbers stay 'claims' until the lab data or owners back them up.
  • The catch, every time. We lead with the real downside instead of burying it.
  • Kept current. Prices and picks are revisited as new models land and filters change.

Good to know

Air purifier questions, answered

Do air purifiers actually help with allergies?

A true-HEPA purifier captures the fine particles behind most allergy symptoms, pollen, dust-mite debris and pet dander, as long as it's sized for the room and run consistently. It won't fix everything, but allergy sufferers are among the most positive owners.

What's the difference between HEPA 13 and HEPA 14?

Both are 'true HEPA'. HEPA 13 captures ≥99.95% of fine particles; HEPA 14 captures ≥99.995%, a small step up that matters most for sensitive households. For everyday use, a well-sized HEPA 13 unit is plenty.

How often do I need to replace the filter?

Most makers quote every 6–12 months, but it depends on use and air quality. This is the real running cost of any purifier, so we always flag whether a model takes cheap standard filters or pricey proprietary ones.

Will a purifier get rid of smells and smoke?

Only with an activated-carbon layer. HEPA alone handles particles, not odours. If pets, cooking or smoke are your concern, look for a carbon stage, which most of our picks include.

What size purifier do I need for my room?

Match the unit's rated coverage to your room, and size up if you want faster results or plan to run it on low. The headline coverage figure is usually a best-case lab number, so each review notes the realistic everyday room size.
